McAfee is a popular virus detection program with a vast knowledge base containing lists of known threats (and how to neutralize them). These lists are updated by the McAfee tech team as often as new virus types are discovered. In order to keep your version of McAfee VirusScan up to date and prepared for the most recent viruses, you need to periodically (ideally once a day) update the program. Manually updating McAfee VirusScan is a simple operation.
Step 1: Open McAfee VirusScan. To do this, go to Start > All Programs > McAfee, then click on "VirusScan." If the program is already running, you can also open it by clicking on the McAfee icon in the system tray area of your taskbar.
Step 2: Click on the "Update Now" button in the navigation pane of the McAfee window. The updater will now initialize and begin searching for (and downloading/installing) any available updates.
Step 3: Click on the "Close" button in the update window once it has finished updating. Your copy of McAfee VirusScan has now be updated to the latest version available.
