Intego Updates Mac Security, Antivirus Tools

Intego rolled out a spate of updates to its line of Internet security offerings at Macworld Expo, including a significant update to its Internet-filtering software and a new version of its server-side virus protection programs.

ContentBarrier is Intego's parental control program, letting parents set time-limits and design filters to manager their kids' Internet usage. The latest version, ContentBarrier X5, offers full recording of what sites have been visited and blocked as well as other activity such as chats, e-mail, applications, and keystrokes.

ContentBarrier X5 also offers improved content category filters and remote Web administration from any computer or mobile device. The software filters more protocols such as FTP/SFTP, SSH, HTTPS and online games and prevents external disks and volumes from mounting.
ContentBarrier X5 runs on OS X 10.4 and higher. A one-seat license costs US$50, with an upgrade from the X4 version costing $35.

Intego also released VirusBarrier Server 2 and VirusBarrier Mail Gateway 2. Both products are aimed at providing virus protection on servers running Mac OS X.

VirusBarrier Server 2 adds a GUI administration console; a full quarantine zone to isolate and repair infected files, and detailed logs of all infected files sent automatically to administrators, among other features. Those changes appear in VirusBarrier Mail Gateway 2 as well, along with the ability to scan all e-mail sent and received via OS X Server's e-mail server and to repair infected e-mails in the quarantine zone.

VirusBarrier Server 2 costs $300 while VirusBarrier Mail Gateway 2 costs $500. Existing users can upgrade for free.

Finally, Intego released an update for VirusBarrier X5, its antivirus program. The 10..56. update--free to all X5 users--improves scan operations. Specifically, scans stop when volumes being scanned are unmounted and the handling of scan scheduling has been improved, among other changes.

Remove Wireshark Rogue Antivirus from PC

Wireshark Antivirus is a rogue antivirus program that uses the name of the well-known software company Wireshark™ to sell a fake program. Just like other fake antivirus applications, Wireshark Antivirus attempts to push the user into purchasing a software license to the software. Once installed, Wireshark Antivirus will load itself up as a startup service with the help of the Trojan, and then it will proceed to perform a large number of fake antivirus scans on the user's system, subsequently reporting that there are a dangerous amount of viruses present on the user's computer. Wireshark Antivirus accentuates these claims with fake virus warning pop-ups that get generated from the Windows Taskbar.

If there is any installation of this dangerous malware application on your computer, you should immediately take action to remove Wireshark Antivirus. In order to delete Wireshark Antivirus, you need to stop its processes, unregister its DLL files, delete its files and folders and remove its registry entries.

Removal of Wireshark:
Use Spyware Doctor anti-spyware software to remove the rogue Wireshark Antivirus from system. This software will completely remove rogue antivirus and make your system infection free.

Remove “The Auto Dialer Virus”

Imagine your phone bill, thicker and heavier than normal. When you open it, instead of "statement stuffers" from the phone companies marketing department, the bill is dozens of pages long ending in a one-month total of almost $5,400. A quick glance at the details reveals that there are hundreds of calls to the same 1-900 number. “A mistake”. Actually, this is not a mistake. In reality you had fallen victim to one of the oldest computer scams around: “The Auto-Dialer Virus”.

The Auto-Dialer installed itself, checked for the presence of a modem and dial tone, and then proceeded to dial an overseas 900 number over and over again. Even though you surfed using an always-on broadband Internet connection, the modem remained ON to send and receive faxes. One problem: not using the modem, it remained plugged into the phone jack.

There is no single solution to avoid these types of malicious acts. A short list of protective measures would include:

1. If you no longer need a modem in your computer, remove it. Or at least disconnect the phone line from the modem.

2. Install anti-virus software such as Trend Micro or Symantec''s Norton Anti-Virus. Many are designed to prevent this kind of malicious software, or "Malware." More importantly, make sure your subscription for new virus patterns is current and configured to automatically download and install updates.

3. Install and regularly run Adware protection solutions such as LavaSoft''s Ad-Aware or SpyBot Search & Destroy and do not, aunder any circumstances, blindly hit "OK" to pop-ups or similar annoyances without first making sure what you are agreeing to.

Most Interesting Facts about Microsoft

Microsoft has an undisputed dominance over the computer industry. It has already been written about Microsoft: its history, its products, even its former CEO Bill Gates. Here are some of the facts about Microsoft that no one knows:

1. “Micro-soft's” first ever mention: The first ever declaration of “Microsoft” was in a letter from Bill Gates to co-founder Paul Allen in 1975. Gates wrote the company name as Micro-soft, which made sense considering it's a portmanteau of “microcomputer” and “software”. “Microsoft” was officially registered as a company in November 1976 in New Mexico.
2. Brian Eno composed “The Microsoft Sound”: Musician Brian Eno was the musical brains behind Window 95's start up tune, dubbed “The Microsoft Sound”. The influential musician, who has worked with the likes of David Bowie and U2, told the San Francisco Chronicle that making such a short piece of music was “funny” and “amazing”.
3. Microsoft uses codenames: Ever since the company's first operating system, Microsoft has worked on its projects with codenames. Past codenames include “Longhorn”, “Lone Star", and “Vienna”. While you might be tempted to add “Mojave” to that list, it's actually part of a Microsoft ad campaign.
4. Microsoft celebrates anniversaries with M&Ms: All companies have their little in-house traditions, and Microsoft is no exception. Microsoft celebrate their yearly employment anniversaries with confectionery, and more specifically, M&Ms. Each anniversary, a Microsoft employee is expected to provide one pound of M&Ms for every year they've worked.

New Google Earth to see World

Google is unleashing a new version of Google Earth, version 5.2. It’s the biggest update since Earth 5.0 added the oceans and Mars in February of 2009–and while it’s not that big, it’s got one major cool new feature and one modest-but-useful one. Google gave me a sneak peek of the new version last week.

The major cool new feature is aimed at folks who like to go adventuring and take a GPS navigation handheld along. If you tote a GPS unit such as the ones from Garmin and Magellan to track a hike, bike ride, sailing trip, or any other excursion, you can shift the data to Google Earth once you’re home. In the past, doing so engaged creating thousands of points of geographic information, but the new version of the software can create simpler plots of where you were at any given point in time. And it lets you view this data as birds-eye animations that track where you went, recreated with Earth’s wealth of geographic photography and 3D imagery. You can also share the reconstructions with other Google Earth users or publish them using the embeddable version of Earth.

For now, the feature only works with data captured by standalone GPS units supported by Google Earth–it’s compatible with hundreds of models–but the idea of it tying into Google smartphone apps like Latitude and the mobile version of Google Earth itself is intriguing.

You can dress up your reconstructions by importing a vehicle model such as a bike or boat from Google’s 3D Warehouse, but this requires massaging a text file by hand, and therefore isn’t for Google Earth newbies. It would be neat if a future version of Earth made it a point-and-click process.

Trend Micro launches Antivirus for Virtual Desktops

Antivirus vendor Trend Micro Monday announced the first virtualization-aware endpoint security software, Trend Micro OfficeScan 10.5.

Trend Micro expects to release the application by the end of next month.

Other new features include the ability to manage up to 20,000 physical and virtual desktop endpoints from a single OfficeScan console, full compatibility with Windows 7-- including Windows 7 Action Center (the operating system's one-stop shop for security information and system maintenance) as well as better role-based administration for delegating administration, as well as Active Directory synchronization.

The problem occurred when the computers with Windows XP Service Pack 3 began to shut down in a minute of its starting up when the customers had downloaded the upgraded version of the McAfee VirusScan. An undesirable affect has been witnessed on the micro blogging site Twitter.

However, only .5 % customer PCs were hit with the antivirus, but it affected largely over the small and the large business companies, also damaging the computers at the hospitals and other municipal services. However, some competitors are taking due advantage of it and rubbing the salt in the wounds.
